RELiEF Partner IMNR receives Gold Medal for Patent at the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations.
Timișoara, Romania – June 13-15 2024: International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations “Traian Vuia” X Edition
In June our partner the Romanian National Research & Development Institute for Non-ferrous and Rare Metals (IMNR – Institutul Național de Cercetare-Dezvoltare pentru Metale Neferoase și Rare) attended the exhibition and our PI Mihai Olaru presented their patent, which discloses a process for obtaining thin films of Sn-Ni alloys, with a compositional gradient through the thickness of the film. Specifically, disclosed Sn-Ni thin film can be used as anode electrode in lithium-ion batteries. The process according to the invention is carried out in a single step and consists in electron-beam thermal evaporation, in vacuum, of the metal components of the alloy, and the co-deposition from the vapor state on a metal foil substrate made of copper, stainless steel, etc. (Li-ion battery current collector).
Along with his colleagues Mihai was awarded the gold medal for patent!
This is an incredible achievement for IMNR and underlines the importance of the work undertaken by IMNR within RELiEF towards the recovery of critical materials in order to close the loop on the battery materials recycling process.
