RELiEF on the Road: Presenting the Latest Findings in Lithium Recycling
Our RELiEF partners continue to spread the word about the project’s latest research and advances at conferences around Europe.
Ulm Electro Chemical Talks 2025 – Ulm, Germany
From June 4 to 5 2025, the 19th UECT brought together experts of fuel-cells and batteries in Ulm, Germany. RELiEF partner Marilena Mancini from ZSW gave a lecture on Recycling and closed Loop, opening the session on day two which was chaired by Dr. Margret Wohlfahrt-Mehrens. The talk emphasised the need for recovering critical raw materials in the EU, with a focus on the RELiEF approach to regenerate the spent LFP by using Li sources from secondary resources. The session also included two speakers from the industry, thus providing a broad overview of the recycling of battery materials from research and industrial perspective. Furthermore, a poster detailing RELiEF’s results was presented.
“The conference audience and discussion highlighted the raising importance of recycling and the development of EU strategies to partially overcome the gap with Asia regarding raw materials and battery production capacities.” – Marilena Manchini, ZSW
International Conference on Environmental Application of Advanced Oxidation Processes – Paestum, Italy
From June 9 to 14, 2025, Alexandra Ribeiro and Eduardo Mateus from NOVA went to Paestum, Italy, to participate in The 7th International Conference on Environmental Application of Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAAOP-7), where they presented a poster titled LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT OF LITHIUM IONS EXTRACTION VIA ELECTROKINETIC-BASED TECHNIQUE, by Carolina Pires, Joana Almeida, M. K. Lenzi, Eduardo P. Mateus and Alexandra B. Ribeiro, and an oral communication titled TESTING THE SELECTIVE RECOVERY OF LITHIUM IONS FROM MINERALS USING THE ELECTRODIALYTIC PROCESS by J. Almeida, C. Pires, M.K. Lenzi, A.B. Ribeiro and E.P. Mateus.
“This was a great opportunity to present scientific results obtained within the scope of the RELiEF project, and to interact and network with colleagues from all over the world.” – Alexandra Ribeiro, NOVA
European Metallurgical Conference 2025 – Hamburg, Germany
From June 22 to 25 2025, RELiEF partner Université libre de Bruxelles presented findings on "Rapid Microwave-Assisted Leaching for the Recovery of Lithium from Pegmatite Heaps Containing a Mixture of Lepidolite and Zinnwaldite." at the European Metallurgical Conference in Hamburg, Germany.
“This was an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable insights and to engage in meaningful discussions to deepen our understanding and broaden our perspectives with participants from both industry and academia.” – Wing Ching Kwok, ULB
By actively participating in these European events, RELiEF continues to drive forward its mission of advancing sustainable lithium extraction technologies and supporting a circular, low-carbon future.
